It feels a little weird to write this, but there's something about Kamaiyah's lighthearted focus on having fun, getting paid, drinking champagne, and having "freaky" sex that is kind of... refreshing? After the density and complexity of Kendrick's recent albums, Kanye's autotuned rants about what will happen once he gets off his Lexapro, and Drake mopily shuffling around while whining about his ex having the audacity to go out and enjoy her life, I ended up being in the mood for something like this without even realizing it.
I mean, just listen to this. It's so goddamned fun! I want nothing more than to successfully negotiate a modest raise at work and then blast this out from the world's most gargantuan speakers. The video makes things even better, as it implies that her vision of becoming weahtly is inextricably tied to playing Banjo Kazooie.
Spending too much time discussing this mixtape from a critical perspective would miss the point. If a funky album with slappin' synth beats and choruses that detail the way in which someone drinks her champagne (hint: it's out the bottle) sounds like fun for you right now, dive right in. It's like the quintessential summer playlist was released a couple of months early.
